Relapse Prevention: An Interventionist Makes Sure You Don’t SlipsRelapse Prevention: Asking An Interventionist WhyRelapse prevention is and should be part of rehab. Not all rehabs spend the time they should educating the addict and his friends and family on the signs of relapse. There are signs going in and there are signs once the addict has slipped. Sometimes the slipping sigs are not as easy to see as an actual relapse. Usually, by the time the addict has slipped people tend to think it’s too late. It’s not and any qualified interventionist will tell you that. A lot of times an addict wants you to ask if they’ve been drinking about or using. They want you to catch them. They are almost making it too obvious so you will ask. Other times they are defense because they know they’ve slipped and they know they are being busted. Alcohol Intervention: Not Knowing When To Let GoYou have to know when to let go in an alcohol intervention and that’s not easy. Usually, a well run alcohol intervention has an interventionist present. He or she is usually the one that tells the family members and friends when to push and when to take a step back. Some families really don’t want to use a specialist but it’s important just like the addict needs to dro the ego for the family to drop the egos too and let outside people help. You cannot control alcoholism or drug abuse. You need to surrender to it and admit that it’s bigger than you are. That’s not easy to do and that’s why it’s important to know that there is help out there and that it’s only a phone call away. Being able to accept help is half the battle. When you let others help you, you begin to heal. |
