Whether you need help with a drug intervention or an alcohol intervention it’s important to know that help is out there. Taking on an intervention without an interventionist present can be a daunting and overwhelming task. You are not just working with the personality of the addict, their denial, their defenses and their fear. You are also working with the fears, the frustration and the anger of the family and friends that you brought together to confront the addict about their addiction.
Everyone is going to have a different approach to how to deal with the addict. You will have the softer personalities that want to mother the addict. You will have the firmer take charge personalities that what to give it to the addict straight. You will have people who have been hurt by the addict and their addiction that are angry and you will have being who are so in love with the addict they are blind to their addiction completely and in denial themselves. That’s why if you can afford to have an interventionist there to steer the intervention it will run a lot more smoothly.
Relapse Prevention: Talking About Relapse Before You’re Even Out Of Rehab
You are not even out of rehab yet and their already talking to you about relapse and relapse prevention. This doesn’t mean that they are setting you up to fail or that they even think that you will fail. It simply means they are preparing you for the possibility of relapse so that when the symptoms, the warning signs present themselves you aren’t unaware about what is going on and you know to get yourself to a meeting or to pick up the phone and call a sponsor or telling a friend of loved one that you are fearful of slipping. The idea is to prevent the relapse.
