Relapse Prevention: Drug Intervention QuestionsAlcohol Intervention & Drug Intervention: Common QuestionsOne question people have when it comes to a drug intervention or an alcohol intervention is they often wonder if confronting the addict as a group is the best way to go. It depends. A lot of times people do interventions for alcoholics or drug users because talking to them one-on-one hasn’t worked. The addict is in denial. They come up with excuses. When one person tried to sit them down and say that they think they needed to get some help the addict stopped talking to them. Other times, people do an intervention to come together as a group to show how much they care about the addict. There are a number of reasons why people decide to choose the one-on-one approach verses the group approach. If you are married and your husband or wife has a problem you might choose to sit them down one Saturday and say look, get help or get out. While the person may have abused alcohol or drugs and just needed to get help wasn’t reason enough, knowing that they’d lose you was, so they decided finally to get into rehab. Relapse Prevention: When You Suspect He Or She Has FallenIt’s never easy once and addict exits rehab to confront them if you suspect they’ve fallen off the wagon. Here’s the thing, there is a reason that rehabs teach addicts about relapse prevention. They want them to be able to recognize the signs prior to falling and if they do fall they want them to know how to handle it. That’s also why rehabs teach family and friends the warning signs as well, so that they can catch the addict too if they fall.
