Often well-meaning efforts to help someone with an alcohol or drug
problem actually empowers them to continue their destructive behavior
by allowing them to avoid the consequences of their actions. This is
called "enabling."
The following questions are designed to help you decide whether or not
your actions and reactions to the alcoholic might be enabling. Although
the questions refer to an "alcoholic" and "him" you can substitute
"addict" and "her" because the principles are the same.
